I love paying rent when the rent is due. Do you have what it takes to make the rent? Well.. I sure hope so.. Nothing is worse than living in the basement at your mom’s playing call of duty. Not that I would know. I haven’t done that since I was about 21. But if that’s how you’re living. More power to you. Save that money.

Nothing is worse than trying to land a place when your credit score mysteriously goes from 750 to 500 in a month. Needless to say.. I had to jump through a few hoops, and sell some things to make things happen. Basically, I had to put down two months of rent ahead of time. It wasn’t fun, but it was fair to me. Now, I am fortunate to have a wonderful landlord who takes good care of her people, and her property. I also surround myself by positive, successful people.

When you have to pay rent, you learn to cut costs. I have recently discovered that (in some cases) ride sharing is cheaper and more economical than owning a car. After doing some of the math, it seems true. At least in my circumstances. Anyone want to buy a Cadillac? When I was younger I used to tell people that I wanted to have it all. I still remember my grandfather looking down at me and saying, “You can’t have everything”. Well, he was right. Independence requires sacrifice.

When I was 21, I gave up everything to move to Florida. I later gave up everything there to come back to Wisconsin. It’s easy to dwell on our losses, but I think it also gives us something to work harder for. Without losses, we wouldn’t appreciate what we have, what we do, or what we’ve learned. Leaving Florida was the best thing I ever did. I was paying my Dad’s rent. All he wanted for me was to lose everything, and be forced to take the bus everywhere. Sorry Daddy.

Another reason I love paying rent is because it reminds me of the few times in my life when I couldn’t. The reason I couldn’t is because I was simply just hanging around with the wrong people. Perhaps I was helping others who didn’t deserve it. Sometimes we have to steer clear of people who drag us down, and leave us in bad situations. You must avoid those toxic people at all costs. They will suck the soul out of you, and kick you while you are down, and take you for everything you have.. and then some. Don’t worry, team KCJ will get you there. You owe it to yourself to become the best you can be.
